Darth Vader, walking pumpkins, vampires and various other super heroes marked Halloween in Forest Park 1978.

Park District scared over 1,400 visitors in three days at their Spook House which weaved through the first and third floors.   Patrons were freighted by Frankenstein, a corpse that welcomed guests with a stirring sight and plenty of terrors.  Juvenile officer Charles Whelpley said, “This is a fantastic creation…there’s nothing else like it.”

The PTO and PTAs had a lighter side of Halloween, hosting school parties at the elementary schools which often included pumpkin decorating.

After school the Community Center welcomed over 300 local children to festive celebrating like biting apples hanging from ropes, movies and lots of treats.

Then of course there was plenty of door to door trick or treating and lots of fun to be had.
