Books on the Chopping Block
Are you anti-censorship? Love to read widely? Experience a performance by City Lit Theater showcasing readings of short excerpts from the top 10 most frequently challenged books of 2017, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 30 at the Forest Park Public Library, 7555 Jackson Blvd. A brief discussion and question and answer session with the
audience and actors will follow the performance.
Knitting With Friends
Join Forest Park Public Library officials in knitting warm clothes for their Little Free Pantry from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 6 at 7555 Jackson Blvd. Beginning and advanced knitters welcome. Supplies will be limited. If you bring your own yarn, please make sure it is washable.
The Producers
Join officials from the Howard Mohr Community Center in travelling from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Feb. 6 to the Paramount Theater in Aurora for The Producers, a play about a musical so horrible it closes after opening night. Cost is $79 for residents and $83 for non-residents. Lunch at Blueberry Hill in Aurora is included. Reservations required. Call the Howard Mohr Community Center at 708-771-7737 to sign up.
Hawaiian Luau Daddy Daughter Dance
Families and children age 4 to 12 can enjoy the Park District of Forest Park’s annual “Daddy Daughter Dance” from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 1 at the park district’s second and third floors, 7501 Harrison St. Night includes dinner, games and dancing to your favorite tunes. Dress for the occasion in favorite luau outfits. Each child will receive a special gift and couples will receive a photo to remember the occasion. Tickets $36 per couple for residents; $46 per couple for non-residents. Extra children cost $9.
Super Bowl Fundraiser
Enjoy food, drinks, a raffle and more at the Super Bowl Fundraiser for the American Legion at 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 3 at 500 Circle Ave. Tickets $25 and include food, a draft beer and a raffle ticket. Call 708-846-8700 for more information.
Love Your Library Party
Celebrate “Love Your Library” month at an all-ages party at the library from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 2 at the Forest Park Public Library, 7555 Jackson Blvd. The party will be “love-themed” and include music by Elvis tribute singer Hugo Colin, crafts, activities and snacks.
