The Illinois Press Association Awards honored the Forest Park Review four times for journalistic excellence on March 26. Congratulations to us and thanks to our readers.

The Review earned first place in “Best Community Focus Special Section” in our division for this year’s Forest Park Answer Book.

We earned second place for community service journalism for our Flier Fact-Check initiative, where we fact-checked every flier submitted to us before the April 2 consolidated election and November 2018 video gaming referendum.

The Review also won second place for Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) reporting for a story titled, “Healy’s Westside manager FOIA’d residents’ emails.” And we placed third for FOIA reporting for “Five bars denied gambling licenses by state board.”

Add in our sister publications — Austin Weekly News, Wednesday Journal and the Riverside-Brookfield Landmark — and our independent community newspapers won more than 40 awards.

By the way, as long as we’re boasting, just last month Chicago Parent was again named the top major metro parenting magazine in the country by the Parenting Media Association.

We are humbled and flattered to receive this recognition.
