Fitness court opening
The Park District of Forest Park will unveil its new fitness court at 9 a.m. on June 1 at the park district, 7501 Harrison St. Instructors will lead 15-minute classes on how to use the new court at 9:15 a.m. and 9:40 a.m. The fitness court is free for all to use and open during regular park hours.
The Animal Care League is inviting all dogs and owners for raffles, yard games, cocktails and more during a “Yappy Hour” fundraiser from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on May 29 at the Cheney Mansion, 220 N. Euclid Ave. in Oak Park. Tickets cost $30, and $10 from every admission benefits the Animal Care League. Appropriate for adults age 21 and over.
Feast For Good
Join officials from Housing Forward for a “Feast for Good” fundraiser on June 6. The nonprofit will offer three options to accommodate all.
For families, Housing Forward is hosting “Forward for Family,” which will start at 6:45 p.m. at Junction Diner, 7401 Madison St., and then head to The Brown Cow Ice Cream Parlor, 7347 Madison St., at 7:45 p.m. for dessert.
For a progressive dinner, Housing Forward is offering “Feast Forward” with seatings at 5:30 and 6:15 p.m. at Jimmy’s Place, 7411 Madison St.
For adults, Housing Forward is offering “Forward for a Few,” where attendees can pop into Madison Street establishments for food and drink specials. Start at 6 p.m. at Exit Strategy Brewing Co., 7700 Madison St., and end the night at 8 p.m. at Healy’s Westside, 7321 Madison St., with sandwiches from Starship Restaurant & Catering.

The Adventures of Augie March
Join officials from the Howard Mohr Community Center for a trip to Court Theater at the University of Chicago for a production of The Adventures of Augie March, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on June 5. Enjoy lunch and bowling after the show at Seven Ten Lanes. Cost is $85 for residents, and $89 for non-residents. Reservations required. 7th Congressional District Town Hall Meeting
Congressman Danny Davis will host a town hall meeting at 7 p.m. on May 29 at Forest Park Village Hall, 517 Desplaines Ave. He will discuss the Affordable Care Act, jobs, education, immigration and all other issues residents are concerned about.
Author discussion & signing
Listen to author Robert Goldsborough discuss his novel, Death of an Art Collector, from 2 to 4 p.m. on June 2 at Centuries & Sleuths Bookstore, 7419 Madison St.
Fifth Annual German Fest
Enjoy live music and entertainment, authentic German food and beer, games for kids, and shop wares from local vendors. The fest will run from 4 to 11 p.m. on June 7, and 12 to 11 p.m. on June 8, at the Altenheim Picnic Grove, 7824 Madison St. Learn more at GermanfestForestPark.com.
Intro to filmmaking
Teens age 12 to 17 can learn the basics of filmmaking during four-week sessions from June 10 to July 3 at the Park District of Forest Park, 7501 Harrison St., or from July 15 to August 7 at the park district. Classes are on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Cost is $195 for residents; $205 for non-residents. Register online at pdofp.org.
Parkour in the park
Parkour experts from Flipside Academy teach teens to flip, kick and jump from 2 to 3 p.m. on June 3 at the Forest Park Public Library, 7555 Jackson Blvd. Appropriate for teens age 12 and older with a signed waiver. Teens will walk with library officials to the Park District of Forest Park, 7501 Harrison St., for the class.
Under the Story Tree
Still Waters Preschool Co-Op will read stories about trees and people from 3:30 to 5 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday at the community gardens, St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 305 Circle Ave. All ages invited.
Walk and talk with a naturalist
Join a naturalist for a guided hike of the Trailside Museum of Natural History, 738 Thatcher Ave., from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on June 5. Children are welcome but strollers are not advised due to the unpaved path.
Team FPPL field day
Join officials from the Forest Park Public Library for a hoola hoop contest, sack race, color fight, and more field day activities, from 2 to 5 p.m. on June 1 at the Park District of Forest Park, 7501 Harrison St. All ages are welcome.
