Enjoy Forest Park’s first ever Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, an introduction to Latin American culture through dance, food and music. Saturday, Oct. 5 from 2 to 11 p.m. in Constitution Court on Madison Street. Rain date is Saturday, Oct. 12.

Celebrate 85 years with the park district 

Friday, October 4 from 6 to 9 p.m. behind the Roos Recreation Center, 7329 Harrison St. Food, beer, music, games, magic show, balloon twisting, carriage rides and more! The Feel Good Party Band will perform at 7 p.m.

Try a new class at the park district 

Some new classes are starting up at the park district of Forest Park in October, and there are several drop-in classes, like Hip Hop Mamas (but you don’t have to be a mom to participate!) and Core De Force. Browse offerings for children and adults at pdofp.maxgalaxy.net.

Library programs continue offsite 

Despite much of the Forest Park Library being closed while renovations are completed, programming continues offsite. For kids, there’s Babybugs Lapsit Storytime at 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday; Toddler Storytime at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays; Hello Amigos! Storytime on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.; Merry Math Makers Storytime on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.; and Exploration Station Storytime on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. All storytime programs will be at the Howard Mohr Community Center, 7640 Jackson Blvd. 

For adults, Device Advice, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8 is an opportunity to get help with tablets, eReaders, laptops or smartphones at this drop-in Tech Lab at the Howard Mohr Community Center.

Haymarket Martyrs Monument and Radical Row Tour 

Join the Historical Society of Forest Park on Oct. 5 at 11 a.m. for an hour-long tour of the Haymarket Martyrs Monument & Radical Row tour at Forest Home Cemetery, 863 Desplaines Ave. Learn the story of the Haymarket Affair and the monument. Free mammograms in October at Rush

Rush Oak Park Hospital is offering free mammograms to women in Oak Park, River Forest and Proviso Township during the month of October. Breast cancer is the second most frequently diagnosed cancer in women, and mammography is the most effective screening tool. Experts at Rush recommend that most women have mammograms beginning at the age of 40. Proof of residence will be requested at the time of your visit and mammograms must be performed by Oct. 31.
