Over $10,000 in merchandise was stolen from Cardinal Liquors, 7533 Roosevelt Rd., on Feb. 17 when four subjects smashed the front window of the store to gain entry. Security camera footage showed a black midsize sedan travel eastbound through the alley behind the store at 5:03 a.m. and enter the parking lot at 5:13 a.m. One subject, wearing light colored pants and a dark jacket, stood on the sidewalk acting as a look out. At 5:20 a.m. three other subjects, all wearing dark clothing, masks and gloves smashed the front window and entered the store. They climbed over the front counter and placed merchandise into bags and tampered with the cash register. At 5:24 a.m. all four subjects got back into the car, which headed east on Roosevelt Road. Approximately 40 minutes later, a liquor store on Roosevelt Road in Berwyn was burglarized in a similar manner.
Man with knife threatens passengers on
CTA platform
A man threatening passengers with a knife on the CTA train platform at 711 Desplaines Ave. prompted dispatch of police on Feb. 14 at 3:07 a.m. A CTA employee who witnessed the event said the man brandished multiple knives and threatened passengers. The employee managed to take one of the knives from the suspect and throw it onto the tracks and out of the suspect’s reach. When police arrived, they found the subject with a knife in hand. They immediately handcuffed him and found two other knives on him, identical to the one thrown on the tracks. He was issued a citation for disorderly conduct, for carrying a weapon in a threatening manner, and for assault.
Bar patron disorderly, threatens bartender
Police were called to Healy’s, 7321 Madison St., on Feb. 15 at 1:39 a.m. because a male customer was threatening the bartender. The bartender told the police that the offender is a frequent customer of the bar, and that night he had been consuming numerous alcoholic beverages. The subject then began disturbing other customers by approaching them, making rude gestures and shouting obscenities at them. He was asked to calm down, pay his tab and leave. Finally he did, but as he paid he told the bartender, “Next time I come here I’m going to bring an AK-47 and use it.” The reporting officer, who is familiar with the suspect because of previous incidents, went to the subject’s apartment and placed him into custody. The suspect was described as “rude and difficult” throughout the entire arrest process, calling the police officers by very inappropriate names, including racial slurs.
Uber driver issued citation for littering
On Feb. 15 at 8:46 p.m. an Uber driver was pulled over and given a citation for throwing a clear plastic cup out of the passenger side window onto the street at the corner of Harlem Avenue and Harrison Street.
CTA trains tagged
On Feb. 18 police were called to 711 Desplaines Avenue at 11:44 p.m. for multiple incidences of graffiti on a train car. The tags painted onto the car included “Street Value” in black spray paint, “Rezos” in green, and “Ain’t No Joke!” in black. On Feb. 23 at 10:11 a.m. police reported to 711 Desplaines where a CTA employee had found graffiti on one of the train cars. The only legible word was “Dawgy.”
Items stolen in residential burglary
A residential burglary prompted a resident to call the police to the 7600 block of Jackson Blvd. on Feb. 18 at 4:03 p.m. The homeowner stepped inside her apartment when she immediately realized her house had been robbed. Both deadlocks on her front door were unlocked when she returned home after work, and she observed a few items on the kitchen floor, items which had not been there when she had left that morning. Police observed that the master bedroom had been ransacked and items were strewn around the room. Missing items included a duffel bag, several watches, a gold colored coin purse with a $100 bill inside, and an emerald necklace. It is possible the thief entered through a window, which may have been unlocked.
Cash taken from apartment
A Patron tequila bottle containing approximately $600 to $700 cash was missing from a residence on the 7400 block of Adams Street on Feb. 19. Police were called at 9:18 p.m. The victim said the back door of the residence had been forced open. The deadbolt was damaged, and the door appeared to have been forced open, according to the police report. The victim stated that she and her girlfriend had been fighting recently, and she suspects the burglar may have in fact been her girlfriend. The victim did not want to sign complaints but wanted to report it as a matter of record only.
Dumpster fire possibly started by
cigarette butt
A dumpster fire on Feb. 20 at 10:45 a.m. brought police to 7740 Roosevelt Rd. The Forest Park Fire Department extinguished the fire. Although it’s not known what caused the fire, police report that there were multiple cigarette butts next to the dumpster and one of them was still burning. The dumpster was significantly damaged from the fire, but no other property was affected.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department, Feb. 14-23, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
