A woman lost her life in a single-car accident on the I-290 expressway heading east through Forest Park when the car she was driving, which witnesses said was moving side to side, hit the barrier on the side of the traffic lane. She was ejected from the car and died from her injuries.

The car went up in flames, and a bystander pulled a child from the car. The child, whose injuries appeared minor, was transported to a nearby hospital.

The accident happened at 2:04 p.m. on July 22 on the I-290 expressway, west of Circle Avenue.

Eastbound traffic was temporarily shut down as police and fire units responded to the accident and while Maywood and Forest Park fire departments put out the fire. As of 4:07 p.m., only one traffic lane was open.
