Felony charges for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and leaving the scene of an accident were issued against a woman whose vehicle hit a person crossing Madison Street on Sept. 26. at 2:20 a.m.
Officers observed the vehicle driving at a high rate of speed, then swerving in its lane and hitting a man crossing the street, so hard he flew into the air. The car drove away from the scene without stopping.
Some officers pursued the vehicle while others attended to the man who had been hit. He was lying face down in the middle of the street, unconscious and taking shallow breaths. Officers observed head and elbow injuries, as well as road rash and cuts over his body. Paramedics were immediately dispatched and took the man to the hospital for treatment.
Officers caught up with the driver on I-290. The driver’s windshield was shattered, and there was severe driver’s side damage to the car. Officers observed the smell of alcohol emitting from the subject’s mouth when she spoke. When she got out of the car, officers observed her stumble.
Officers recovered a bottle of Jameson and 36 grams of marijuana, packaged in such a way as to suggest the intent to sell and distribute.
Two passengers of the car were released on scene and given a ride to 1 Harrison St. in Oak Park, where they became suspects in a motor vehicle theft at that location shortly after.
On Sept. 28, Village Administrator Tim Gillian said there was nothing to indicate the victim would have any lasting injuries.
Armed robbery at 7-Eleven
Police were dispatched to the 7-Eleven at 7749 Roosevelt Rd. on Sept. 24 at 6:54 p.m. A witness described a male subject in his early 20s who was purchasing a bag of sunflower seeds in the store. When the cashier rang up the purchase and opened the register, the subject displayed a black handgun and reached into the register, grabbing money.
At the same time, a second subject came around the counter and began taking Newport cigarettes and Backwoods cigars.
Both subjects left the store, heading toward Desplaines Avenue and turning north.
Penises featured in graffiti spree
On Sept. 26, a spree of graffiti, mostly of what appeared to be drawings of penises, were reported by residents who found the phallic images on their homes and cars. In some cases, words such as “PENIS,” “REPUBLICAN” or “I like penis” accompanied the drawings. In other cases, more sinister words were written, including the F-word, and a few instances of swastikas were drawn as well. The phrase “BLM” was included in some of the defacements too.
In total, at least eight penises were drawn in at least 15 incidents of defacement in black marker on various surfaces on the 500 block of Elgin Avenue, the 7600 block of Jackson Boulevard, the 7700 block of Wilcox Street, and the 500 block of Jackson Boulevard.
The damage appears to be random in nature and not directed specifically at the home or vehicle owners.
Men, pretending to be working on water main, rob house
Two men burgled a house on the 1200 block of Circle Avenue by pretending to be there to investigate a water main break on Sept. 23 around 4:15 p.m. The victim said two men came to her rear kitchen window. They were wearing camouflage masks, safety vests, black gloves and brown tool belts. They were carrying two-way radios. They told her they had hit a water main on the street and that her water was contaminated
She let the men into her home and went downstairs with one, who tapped on her laundry sink faucet and used a red light to show her that her water was contaminated. The other man stayed upstairs with the victim’s adult daughter; he told the daughter to keep an eye out the window for a red truck.
After about 15 minutes, both men ran out of the house, saying they’d be back. Items were missing from the victim’s house, including all her jewelry and $500 in cash. It appeared that all her dresser drawers had been gone through. The woman and her daughter couldn’t accurately identify the two men because the men were wearing masks.
Excessive noise violation issued
An excessive noise violation citation was issued to a man on the 7400 block of Madison Street on Sept. 25 at 12:51 a.m. The man was driving his vehicle eastbound, and the reporting officer could hear loud music emanating from the car from several blocks away.
Open container citations issued
A woman was given a ticket for open alcohol after she was seen sitting on her car, pouring alcoholic drinks from a bottle into a plastic cup on Sept 26 at 11:12 p.m. on the 7300 block of Circle Avenue.
A man on the 7600 block of Madison Street was issued a local ordinance citation for open alcohol after he was seeing pouring liquid from a Hennessy bottle into a plastic cup.
A man drinking a Corona beer was given a local ordinance citation for open alcohol on Sept. 26 at 1:21 a.m. He was parked outside Constitution Court and drinking in his car.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department, Sept.21-27, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
