The village got word that it will be receive an Invest in Cook grant to help create a sidewalk along Van Buren Street from Madison Street to the CTA Desplaines Ave. Blue Line station.

Village Administrator Tim Gillian announced at the Nov. 23 village council meeting that the county will pay about half of the approximately $500,000 project.

The concrete sidewalk will be 10 feet wide and will run along the west side of Van  Buren Street, tying into the existing sidewalk as it comes from the Blue Line, said Gillian.

Construction is expected to begin this winter or in the spring.

The path will be wide enough for bikers and walkers to safely stay out of traffic, connecting them both to the train station and providing closer access to the Prairie Path.
