We get that there are neighbors who are just implacably opposed to the proposed apartment building on Harrison Street. Their minds were made up from the get-go. It is too big. Too much traffic added. Worries over flooding. Don’t like the design.
We understand those concerns, though we think neighbors would do well to listen and possibly be persuaded that their efforts have led to some concessions and could lead to more.
It is the village’s Plan Commission which we don’t fully get. The hearing process is grinding on without moving toward compromise or resolution. The June meeting had too much talk from commissioners critiquing design elements Forest Park ordinance specifically does not delegate to the commission. Meanwhile the developers are asking for specific direction on what changes will get them to approval and if they can afford to make those changes. That’s the process.
The commission reconvenes in July. We expect to see a more focused and productive outcome.
