Senior New Year’s Eve party
The Howard Mohr Community Center’s annual senior New Year’s Eve party is right around the corner, and registration is still open for those looking to attend.
Senior citizens are invited to enjoy an “elegant meal” along with raffles, dancing, a champagne toast and party poppers at “pretend midnight,” which is 3 p.m. The party begins at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 31.
Tickets are $50 for Forest Park residents and $55 for nonresidents. The center is offering door-to-door bus service to the party for $1, but only by appointment, and only for Forest Park’s senior citizens and disabled residents.

Proviso West basketball tournament
One of Chicagoland’s most prestigious prep basketball tournaments returns Monday, Dec. 27 to Thursday, Dec. 30 at Proviso West High School in Hillside.

The four-day event features some of the area’s top teams, and this year includes both Proviso schools along with schools throughout the city, suburbs and Northwest Indiana, among them Fenwick, Morton, Whitney Young and Kenwood.
The West tournament is marking its 60th anniversary this year and concludes with Thursday’s consolation championship at 2 p.m., fifth-place game at 4 p.m., third-place game at 5:30 p.m. and the title game at 7 p.m.

Senior movie: The Man who Invented Christmas
Join fellow seniors at the Forest Park Public Library, 7556 Jackson Blvd., on Wednesday, Dec. 22 from 1 to 3 p.m. to take in the 2017 biopic that follows the journey Charles Dickens took to create his iconic story, A Christmas Carol.

Winter Break Camp

Even though school’s out of session, Forest Park’s youngsters still have a chance to get together and enjoy some quality time together at the Park District of Forest Park’s Winter Break Camp, Monday, Dec. 27 to Thursday, Dec. 30.
The camp features sports, crafts and more, and runs from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Pre-registration is required and can be made by visiting bit.ly/WinterBreakCamp2021. Registration is $25 per day for Forest Park residents and $35 per day for nonresidents.

Story trail

Kick off the Christmas holiday with a short walk at the Trailside Museum of Natural History, 738 Thatcher Ave. in River Forest., on Christmas Eve, Friday, Dec. 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A children’s book, The Snowy Day, accompanies the walk, and afterward guests are encouraged to pick up an activity bag at the museum to start their own adventure with custom crafts and activities.
All guests age 2 and older are required to wear a mask indoors, regardless of vaccination status. There is no cost to attend.
