On Feb. 4, the Illinois Lottery Powerball numbers that were drawn matched those of a winning, $1 million ticket sold right here in Forest Park.
Refiners Citgo, 7323 Randolph St., sold the winning ticket—the first Powerball prize of at least $1 million in Illinois this year.
“I couldn’t believe it — we’ve been waiting for this moment!” said Jagdish Singh, store owner, in a press release. “We don’t know who the winner is yet, but with all the local foot traffic, there’s a good chance they’re from the surrounding area.”
The gas station has existed at Randolph and Circle since the 1930s.
According to Singh, the $1 million ticket is the largest winning ticket that the business has sold since he bought it 15 years ago. He said Refiners Citgo sold a scratch-off ticket last summer that won $400,000.
Refiners Citgo will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket, or 1% of the prize amount.
“The timing couldn’t be better,” Singh said in a press release. “We’ve been eager to invest in store upgrades, including a new cooler, and our customers will really benefit from those improvements.”
