Vernestra (Verne) Hopkins Mines, 85, of Forest Park, formerly of Chicago, died on July 21, 2024. Born on Oct. 18, 1938, she attended Wells High School in Chicago and later earned an A.A.S. Degree from Wright Jr. College. She retired as HR manager from Brad Foote Gear Works in Cicero in 2000 and retired again from Walmart in Forest Park in 2018. A longtime member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Chicago until it closed, she joined St. Paul Lutheran Church in Melrose Park. She loved to travel, was an excellent seamstress and created many crafts, especially micro-mitts. A hard-worker, she was a loyal and trustworthy friend with rock-solid integrity and was always punctual.
Verne was the mother of Therese (Dallis) Anderson and the grandmother of Daylan Anderson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Shellie Hopkins and Mittie Hopkins Bass, Harvey Bass Sr., and her husband, LG Mines.
Her life will be honored with a visitation on Tuesday July 30 from 4 to 6 p.m. and a memorial service from 6 to 7 p.m. at Zimmerman-Harnett Funeral Home, 7319 W. Madison in Forest Park. Interment will take place privately.
