The Harlem Post was a local weekly newspaper printed in German for the local German population. Its first edition was published on Sept. 12, 1895.
In the paper’s Dec. 1, 1898 edition, the Harlem Gymnastics Club, or Turnverein, announced their big Christmas celebration scheduled for Dec. 25. It was going to include a gymnastics show, Christmas presents for gymnastics students, and a ball, with no cover charge for students and members of the ladies auxiliary.
There was also an ad for Jacob’s Pharmacy, a German drug store, located at 197 Madison St. near Desplaines Avenue in Harlem.
