The start of another school year in Forest Park is just around the corner, and for reasons outlined in a front-page story this week, parents and educators will be particularly mindful of how it all kicks off. Bumps in the road should be expected, but should not distract us from the larger goal of boosting student performance.
Restructuring the district so that students are grouped by grade level rather than their address may or may not be the right decision. Administrators and board members did a fair job of presenting the pros and cons of the change when it was discussed last year, and the concerns of parents were heard. Now, with classes beginning Aug. 26, the most important thing any parent can do is help make the most of the opportunity for their children.
