Forest Park police arrested two Chicago men early May 25 shortly after they were accused of being involved in an armed robbery at a local gas station.
Officers were dispatched to a Citgo gas station that doubles as a 7-11 convenience store, on 7749 Roosevelt Rd., following a report of an armed robbery; and en route there, the responding squad reportedly spotted a car that was occupied by two subjects who fit the description of the assailants.
Police pulled over the car on Roosevelt Road and Marengo Avenue, but once the subjects’ vehicle halted, the passenger, 26-year-old Dondra Woods, exited and ran toward an alley between Marengo Avenue and Elgin Avenue.
The driver, 45-year-old Parker Benson was immediately apprehended, and so was the fleeing passenger, after a brief foot chase by police.
The cashier working at the time told police that a suspect matching Woods entered the store with a makeshift mask (made out of a shirt) and brandished a revolver, before jumping over the counter and demanding that the cashier open the register. After the cashier obeyed the order, and Woods’ subsequent command to drop to the floor, Benson allegedly removed money from the register while Woods stole cigarettes, a lighter, and lottery tickets.
Police found $107 on Woods when he was arrested, and he also reportedly informed police that the gun belonged to him.
Woods was charged with two counts of resisting arrest; and single counts of armed robbery and unlawful use of a weapon, respectively. Benson was processed for armed robbery. Both men are currently being held at the Cook County Jail.
