Police removed a dead body from the Des Plaines River near Roosevelt Road yesterday after receiving a call from a person who reported seeing legs in the water, Mayor Anthony Calderone said Wednesday.

Few details about the dead male’s identity are known at this point, although an autopsy is currently being performed by the Cook County Medical Examiner.

According to a Chicago Tribune news report, the body was so decomposed that “identifying the person’s age or race was impossible.”

The mayor also noted that, currently, there are no signs of foul play.

“Tomorrow there will be more information,” he said.

The Tribune reported that Maywood police are handling the case, although Calderone said that Forest Park authorities are involved; it is unclear if both departments are working together or pursuing separate investigations.

Police from Maywood and Forest Park were unavailable for comment.
