A body that was found in the Des Plaines River in Forest Park on Tuesday is a missing Maywood man who Maywood police have been in search of for some time, according to Police Chief Tim Curry.
The male body was positively identified as 27-year-old Macus Johnson, who went missing on June 13, Curry wrote in an email. An autopsy was performed on Johnson yesterday, and the Cook County Medical Examiner ruled the death a drowning. Curry said he didn’t believe there was any foul play, although the examiner’s office said the manner of death is currently unknown.
“The investigation continues at this point,” Curry said.
Johnson’s body was pulled from the Des Plaines River near the 800 block of Desplaines Avenue by Forest Park police on Tuesday afternoon. Officers responded to a call from an individual who reported seeing two legs floating in the river.
It is not clear if Forest Park police are still involved in the case. Calls and emails sent to the Mayor’s Office of Public Affairs were not returned. Calls to the Forest Park police went unanswered.
