Starting this week, anyone shopping or visiting the village’s commercial corridors in areas near Roosevelt Road and Madison Street will not have to pay to park at metered spots or in village-owned parking lots.
A red bag will cover the parking meters in those areas, and motorists will not have to pay to park their cars all month long, according to the village.
“The month of December is being dubbed as a parking meter holiday in those areas to help both shoppers and businesses during this holiday season,” said Sally Cody, village secretary, in an email.
The red bags will be atop parking meters in the commercial areas until the beginning of January 2012.
