The Animal Care League will celebrate its 40th birthday with a luncheon at the Oak Park Country Club on April 28th. Remember the league’s 2nd Chance shop at 808 Harrison in Oak Park. They can always use donations, volunteers, and $$$. Thanks to Chatka Ruggiero, the low cost spay and neuter clinic is available. The money from the luncheon and other donations will be used to shore up existing facilities on Harrison which were built in the 30s and but not as an animal shelter.
Music lovers in the area are familiar with the name Paul Lindblad, music director at Saint John. Paul also directs the Oak Park Concert Chorale, an organization dedicated to performing varied and exciting music. The Chorale will present a spring concert A Cappella Joy on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at 4 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 7300 West division in River Forest. The music on this program spans seven hundred fifty years of a cappella music from six nations. A highlight will be “Befiehl du deine Wege”, by J.C. Alnickol, a student and son in law of J.S. Bach!
The Friends of the Forest Park Library have cancelled the May book sale for several reasons. First, there were not enough books donated. Second, they were not able to gather enough young manpower to load and unload the boxes of books. Third, the ongoing book sales have netted more money than the annual sale earns. True, the book sale is a great social event, readers get together and discuss the available books. So, at least for this year, no gathering around the book tables for browsing.
Congratulations to Emily and Paul Fitzgerald for landing on the honors list at Purdue University.
