Review columnist John Rice will lead a bike tour of Historic Forest Park Sunday, May 5 starting at 1 p.m.

The Historical Society of Forest Park wants to get you on your bike this summer. The society will host a series of bicycle tours of historic village sites in the village and a separate tour of Forest Park cemeteries from May through October, said Diane Hansen Grah, director of the society.

It all begins Sunday, May 5 with a Historic Tour led by Forest Park resident and Review columnist John Rice. The two-hour, 4.5 mile tour will begin at Howard Mohr Community Center, 7640 Jackson Blvd. at 1 p.m. (arrive 15 minutes early).

This kickoff bike tour concludes with a barbeque at the Park District Pavilion for tour attendees, Historical Society members and volunteers. The historic bicycle tour will take place monthly, May through October, on the first Sunday of the month, Hansen Grah said.

A week later, Hansen Grah herself will host two cemetery bicycle tours on Saturday, May 11. The first tour, at 11 a.m. covers both Forest Home and Woodlawn cemeteries and the second at 2 p.m. is for Forest Home cemetery only, Hansen Grah said. The cemetery tours leave from St. Peter’s Church, 500 Hannah Ave. (arrive 15 minutes early). The cemetery tour will also be offered monthly, she said.

Tickets are $20 for non-members; $15 for members of the Historical Society in advance and $25 the day of the tour.  Participation is limited to 20 persons per tour. You must have your own bicycle to participate, Hansen Grah said.
