Valentine Sweethearts: Lili and Stefan Herold on their wedding day 66 years ago in Germany. (Courtesy McAdam Family)

Lili and Stefan Herold were re-married on Valentine’s Day, 2014. It was their 66th wedding anniversary and their family and all their many friends couldn’t contain their joy at the event. The Herolds lived for many years in Forest Park and recently Lili went to live in an assisted living facility, Aiden Courts in Palos Heights. Aiden Courts had a Sweethearts Luncheon on Valentine’s Day and the Herolds were given special honors since February 14, 1948 was their actual wedding day. They were married in Germany in a small town near Nuremburg and later immigrated to the U.S. with their son and daughter, settling in Forest Park. Stefan, born in Yugoslavia, Lili, from Ukraine, were part of the forced mass exodus of millions of ethnic Germans from Eastern Europe in the months following WWII. Here in the U.S., Stefan worked as a custodian at Oak Park River Forest High School. Lili touched the hearts of the guests when she and Stefan renewed their vows. When asked if she promised to love Stefan she turned to him and said, “I have always loved you and always will.” Then she gave him an amorous embrace. Stefan was heard to remark, “OK, that’s enough for now.” That brought down the house. They were joined for the wedding reception by grandson Scott McAdam, Jr., daughter Veronika McAdam, granddaughter Amanda McAdam and son-in-law Scott McAdam, Sr.

Remember March 14 is Pi Day (3.14) so here are a few slices of Pi for you to digest in honor of the occasion:

Pi Day is also the birthday of Albert Einstein.

What do you get if you divide the circumference of a jack-o-lantern by its diameter? Pumpkin pi.

The current world’s record for pi memorization was made in 2006 by Akira Haraguchi who recited 100,000 digits from memory in sixteen hours!

Computers have calculated pi with a precision of more than one billion digits.

Now on with the birthdays!
