Every year the Forest Park Middle School elects one student to represent them as their School Citizen of the Year. A School Citizen of the Year should excel not only in academics, but be an overall excellent student. This year’s School Citizen of the Year is Maria Garcia.
Maria is a one-of-a-kind student. She is respectful and is always willing to assist others. She excels in her studies and is enthusiastic about school. Maria is also involved in over 10 extracurricular activities. Outside of the classroom, Maria has been involved in Garden Club, Science Club, Yearbook (chief editor and photographer), NJHS (vice-president), Student Council, Leadership Camp, volleyball, soccer, Challenge (the district’s gifted program), and basketball (team manager). Maria has also volunteered to take part in the Trinity Math Contest this past December. While at FPMS, Maria has received recognition for Good Citizenship and High Honors. Outside of school, Maria volunteers at the park district, Community Center, Holley Court, and Oak Park Arms. Maria is definitely taking advantage of all the opportunities available to her, and I foresee her doing the same in high school and beyond.
