James Eichmiller

The Forest Park school board voted Thursday to accept the resignation of James Eichmiller, director of instructional technology.

Eichmiller, who lives in Clarendon Hills, has accepted a job as tech director for Downers Grove School District 58.

Several board members expressed frustration that Eichmiller was leaving April 4, voting, “Regretfully, aye.”

He was hired in May, 2013 to help usher in technology improvements at the district and helped roll out 200 Chromebooks to Forest Park Middle School students in January as part of the district’s “one-to-one” initiative.

He helped as the district looked ahead to the new tech challenges of the PARCC exams (coming next year) it became clear that infrastructure — servers, networks, routers — needed to be upgraded so the schools had the bandwidth for multiple students to take a test online.

And as the school board reacted to parent complaints about communication, Eichmiller helped the district keep the website current. He also helped the district iron out issues with social media, so the district could have a presence on Twitter and Facebook.

The district has posted the director of instructional tech job here: http://tinyurl.com/qj8dfvc. Eichmiller’s salary was $80,000.
