Virtually every week now, we read about one or more individuals being ticketed for failing to yield to pedestrians in one of the crosswalks on Madison Street. It seems just a matter of time before someone gets hit in one of these encounters. I think the village should just go ahead and put stop signs at each of the crosswalks and be done with it. It might slow traffic a bit, but traffic should be moving slowly anyway down this commercial strip. There will always be those who aren’t aware of the requirement to yield to pedestrians, but they know enough to stop at stop signs. Why wait until someone gets hurt?
