The blues had a stepchild and they called it hip-hop.

Forest Park’s own international blues harmonica blower Sugar Blue appears on a new project collaborating with a rap star famous for blending the sounds of hard rock and rap.

Released this week is a new collaboration by Blue and DMC (aka Darryl McDaniels), one-third of the 1980s trio Run-DMC. Producer Sonix The Mad Scientist created the song “Next Level” that combines the sounds of Chicago blues and hip hop.

Grammy-award winning Blue begins the song with the opening lines of Muddy Waters’ ‘I’m a Man’ complete with Little Walter-style harp blowing.  The piece takes off from there with rapping rhymes of Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame inductee DMC.
