Belated happy birthday (#162?) to Sherlock Holmes, shown seated in the window of Centuries & Sleuths. His birthday, as you know, was celebrated at the store on Jan. 6, but I neglected to honor him with a photo at that time. If you shop at the Magic Tree bookstore on Oak Park Avenue, you’re probably familiar with Rosie, the pretty young bookseller there. Rosie is a big fan of Mr. Holmes and C&S. Not that other Holmes from Murder in the White City.
For a good time, go to Jimmy’s any Friday. My handsome young cousin, Tim Hartnett, was visiting Forest Park from Milwaukee last week and that’s where we went. The crowd was lively, happy, friendly and fun. A few businesses were having their Christmas parties and that made things even better. Nobody had too much; it seemed everyone was just right. Jimmy was his usual genial self, and Fremini joined us to liven up the conversation, too. As I said, for a good time go to Jimmy’s. The food was, as always, excellent. Most of it is made from Fremini’s mother’s old recipes (that’s a scoop).
Shown greeting all comers is Henry the dog, very friendly and extremely proud of his new sweater with the American flag emblazoned on the back. Henry is also proud of the two big white teeth you can see on his lower jaw. (See those two big ones?) If you meet Henry, be sure to be friendly to him because he likes you already.
Welcome home to Peggy O’Rourke, who spent part of the holidays in San Francisco with her niece and new family baby. Peggy is happy to be back to cheer on the Blackhawks with their amazing season.
Roger Grant is enthusiastic about just about everything, especially his discovery of Georgraphy Google. A few days ago he visited Machu Picchu; Lima, Peru; Cordoba, Argentina; and other places. But he urges Forest Parkers to visit the corner of Thomas & Jackson in Forest Park and you will see a famous person standing there (not the mayor).
