Dorothy Gillian and her committee took us on an exciting cruise last week. Everyone seemed to be having a good time, especially Father Stan who kept the ladies laughing and talking for much of the evening. He even donned a captain’s hat to lead the diners in saying grace before dinner.
Shown here selling “magic candy” are Laura Hogan and her partner Kathy Rush. Marge Zwadlo is about to purchase a piece of that candy and probably win a nice prize.
Many old friends got together, including faithful St. Bernardine parishioner Blanch Scodius. Many Forest Park businesses donated prizes as did many friends from Oak Park and Berwyn. Some local generous donors were Brown Cow, O’Sullivan’s, Madison Park Kitchen, Todd & Holland, Bertuca, Skrine, The Junction, Andrea’s, Ed’s Way, Schauer Hardware, Healy’s, Starship Sub, and Blue Max. Apologies to any Forest Park businesses I have omitted.
Former Forest Parker, Proviso East grad, and filmmaker Eric Battersby sends word from Arizona that our old friend Warren Smith has died. “Smitty” was the proprietor of “Smitty’s” on Roosevelt Road many years ago. He had been married for a time to Eric’s mother, Carol Byars. Carol is now the wife of Roger Johnson and they are all living in Arizona. Eric is still making films with a global conscience. WalkaMile.com is where you can find him. Or GMO-Apple iTunes.
Apologies to Theresa Udil for extending this late birthday greeting. Theresa is probably the oldest Forest Parker, 102 is her magic number this year. Happy birthday and congratulations on your long life. How did you do it?
Centuries & Sleuths patrons will discuss Dashiell Hammett’s famous Maltese Falcon on Saturday, April 30. Then at 2 p.m. on May 7, the Michael Teolis Singers will perform at First United Methodist Church, 324 N. Oak Park Ave. at 7:30 p.m. Always a treat, full of unexpected surprises. Don’t miss this delightful group.
Birthdays this week are Tom Cody, Tom Hawkins, Angie Venrella, Steffi Schiler, Larry Geraci, Emily Fjelstad, Karen Hawkins, Marie Gianelli and Alexandra Zaverlas.
Happy anniversary to Veronica and Gene Rischler, Mike and Jean Bigos, Brandi and Rob Mintz, and Debbie and Bill Schaubel.
“Kalo Paska” or “Happy Easter” to our Greek friends.
