Sincere sympathy to the family of Genny Shelton. Such a tragedy right in our midst is impossible to ponder. We are so sorry, so very sorry and unable to express our grief adequately to the family. Our own problems seem miniscule in contrast. Some heartaches in life are unending; we just go on somehow, but life is never the same.

Something new has been added to Forest Park this year. It’s Empowering Gardens. You’ll find it at 7730 Madison St. This enterprise provides people who have a broad range of disabilities with meaningful long-term career employment opportunities. The director is Ana Solares. Ana is on duty to assist you with any garden problems you may have. She and her assistant, Manny, are eager to help in any way to make your flower and/or vegetable garden a huge success this year.

This is a 501©3 non-profit Illinois corporation and is certainly welcome in Forest Park. The organization is passionate about creating an eco-friendly environment with our help. When you’re looking around for something to add to your garden, take a look at what they have to offer. You will be delightfully surprised. Save your receipts. I’m not an accountant, but since they are a 501©(3) organization, you may be able to use what you spend as a tax deduction. As I said, I’m no accountant, ask someone who knows — like your accountant.

If you would like help in other ways, contact richard@empoweringgardensinc.org or ana@empoweringgardesinc.org. They invite you to visit their website or mail a check to Empowering Gardens Inc., P.O. Box 2161, Oak Park.

Schauer Hardware will never be the same now that Jennifer (Garrity) DeMoraes is gone. Officer Mike O’Connor seems to have misunderstood the situation. When he heard that Jennifer was going to Joliet, he immediately slapped the handcuffs on her.

When someone explained to him that Jennifer and her husband John had bought a home in Joliet and she is not going to the prison, Officer O’Connor removed the cuffs. Bob Farrow is not shown in the picture since it was his day off. Saying goodbye to Jennifer are Eliza Buttacavoli, Corinna Jantz, Loretta Jantz, Brad Nelson, and Rich Schauer
