Sad news to start the day. The dear little dog, Suzie G. has surgery scheduled for Tuesday, July 26. Her person sincerely thanks all who contributed to Suzie’s gofundme. Suzie’s general health is good. The outlook is promising. We’ll keep you posted.

The lovely, slim young lady shown here is Diana Ballard, champion runner and basketball player. Diana played a lot of basketball when she went to college in Arizona. She is a graduate of our Forest Park Middle School and Proviso East. Her love for all animals is a famous quality she possesses and she hopes to get a dog someday. She is working in Yorktown now but hopes to move to Australia eventually. Fortunately Diana loves the heat, so Australia is a good place to go.

Last week, I mentioned some places in Forest Park where people go to enjoy themselves. Did I neglect one of the most famous places of all, our world famous Brown Cow? Named one of the 12 best ice cream parlors in the nation. And let’s not forget Shoes on Madison. I did mention the many shops, but I’d like to mention them again. You’ll find the latest in fashions right here, with reasonable price tags on them as well. And let us not forget The Junction! One of the best ideas to ever hit Madison Street.

The Dog Days are here. On Aug. 4, Madison Street will pay homage to the Animal Care League of Oak Park and the most desirable dogs and cats will be available for adoption. There will be contests for dog lovers of the area and special free treats. Five percent of all sales items will go to the Animal Care League of Oak Park.

In case you haven’t noticed it, it’s been hot. Hot, hot, hot! To remedy this painful situation, I would like to recommend the Brown Cow, 7347 Madison. It’s the best place in town to spend your money on these hot days. Did I mention it is hot?

Scoops, blended drinks, floats, sodas, yes, you can even get a real old-fashioned soda there. You can make up your own sundae. The best pecan pie anywhere. Cupcakes, ice cream pies, oh yumm. There’s the Brown Cow Sundae, three scoops of chocolate, topped with hot fudge, peanut butter, whipped cream nuts, sprinkles, cherries, all served in a milk pail. There’s Delia’s banana split, Keegan’s Cup of Dirt, Timmy’s fluffer nutter, sundae, Laura’s strawberry field, Ellie’s turtle temptation. And more and more. Get over there before all the stuff is gone and winter is back. Hot!

Good luck to Loretta Jantz of Schauer Hardware. Loretta is getting a new knee on Monday, Aug. 1. We’ll all be thinking about you and hoping for the best, Loretta.
