Pete Kennedy was heard to say “Shanahan’s is the best!” Also in on the planning were Esthela Gonzales, Leo Morales, Pam Johnson and Radana of Shanahan’s. Incidentally, those musicians are all special ed teachers at East Leyden High School.

The Symphony of Oak Park-River Forest gave us a concert of majestic proportions last Sunday. The concert was dedicated to the memory of John Giura, a great supporter of the symphony who died suddenly last spring. The music was a fitting tribute to a great man who did much for the community. “Heroic Beethoven” was the title of the concert. The Concerto #3 in E Major was performed by Winston Choi on the piano. Words cannot describe his virtuosity. This young man has performed all over the world. He tours regularly with his wife, also a musician, violinist MingHuan Xu. He is head of piano at the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt. The concert was described by one member of the audience as “a jewel.”
