Eighth-graders from Forest Park Middle School’s Challenge Program placed fourth regionally at the National Engineering Week Future City Competition on Jan. 19. They also received the “Best Model” award and a special award from the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Future City is a project-based learning program where students in grades 6-8 build futuristic model cities.

For their project, FPMS students designed a city simulation, wrote a team research and narrative paper, built a scale city model and presented their vision of the future to more than 35 engineers. D91’s team included Mekai Fountain, Ernesto Gasse, Kelvin Grezlak, Malaya Pascual, and Finnur Shelton.
