Chicago man gifts homeless friend cannabis
Police allegedly watched a Chicago man sell cannabis in the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot at about 4:03 p.m. on Feb. 3.
Officers watched as Terrell Smith, of Chicago, 34, pulled his Chevrolet Cruz into 7200 Circle Ave. and trade an unknown item with a man loitering outside. The two exchanged the item through the car window. Smith then drove out of the parking lot, and police pulled him over on the 100 block of Marion Street in Oak Park.
A name check revealed Smith had a revoked driver’s license, as well as an active suspension for driving under the influence, fleeing a police officer and has been convicted three times previously of driving with a revoked license, qualifying him for a felony charge.
Officers also smelled cannabis inside the car and observed an item bulging from Smith’s pants. Smith told police he had “a little bit” of cannabis in his pants. Police recovered an 8 ounce jar filled with suspect cannabis, 10 plastic bags containing 22 grams of suspect cannabis and a bag containing four grams suspect cannabis. They also found $578 cash on Smith.
Smith told police he was on his way to Boston Market to meet his friend, whose girlfriend recently kicked him out of his house. He saw his friend in the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot and decided to stop and just meet him there.
When he arrived, Smith said he gave his friend $10 to help him find a place to stay and a small amount of cannabis, clarifying that he did not accept payment for the marijuana.
Police charged Smith with felony delivery of cannabis more than 30 grams, driving on a suspended license, failure to signal, and possession of more than 30 grams of cannabis.
Man claims lack of sleep led to reckless driving
Police watched as a Nissan Altima drove quickly in reverse down Madison Street at about 2:32 a.m. on Feb. 3.
Officers curbed the Nissan at 7411 Madison St. and asked the driver why he was driving so recklessly. A Chicago man, 22, told police he had just heard his friend was in danger of being attacked and was going to protect him. Officers smelled alcohol on the man.
The driver told police he only drank one beer before driving, but also believed his lack of sleep may have contributed to his reckless reversing. The Chicago man told officers he had only slept one hour over the last two days. He was charged with reckless driving, speeding and improper backing.
Camry stolen from car wash
A man stole a Toyota Camry parked at a car wash on Harlem Avenue at about 1:15 p.m. on Jan. 29.
The victim said he was vacuuming his car and briefly turned to return the hose when a man jumped in and drove off with his vehicle. The car, containing an iPhone 6 and a wallet that held credit cards, a debit card, gift cards, IDs and a checkbook, fled east onto Interstate-290.
Police used the “Find My iPhone” mobile app to trace the phone to the 4300 block of Jackson Boulevard in Chicago. Chicago police have been notified to look for suspects in the area.
Burglar steals jewelry
Sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Jan. 28, someone broke into a house in the 7200 block of Franklin Street and stole an undisclosed amount of jewelry and other items.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department, Jan. 28-Feb. 3, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
