Car, gun stolen at convenience store
A Chicago man’s Buick Lacrosse was stolen from 7-Eleven, 7749 Roosevelt Road, at about 6:36 p.m. on March 27, after he left it running and unlocked for a brief period so he could buy lottery tickets. The Chicago man, a concealed carry license holder, told police there was a loaded handgun and additional ammunition inside the stolen car.
Officers were able to track the car to the West Side of Chicago, using the OnStar navigation system installed in the vehicle. At 8:30 p.m. Chicago police said they arrested a suspect in possession of the stolen handgun.
Woman strikes guardrail, receives DUI
After allegedly striking the guardrail on the 7600 block of Jackson, a Chicago woman parked her car at the intersection of Thomas and Jackson around 2:45 a.m. on March 31.
Police, who identified it as the Chevrolet Camaro that struck the curb earlier, approached the car. The woman immediately rolled down her window and handed officers the vehicle manufacturer materials, registration, maintenance receipts, insurance and more. Police asked her for her driver’s license. She pointed to the stack of non-relevant paperwork she supplied.
Officers smelled alcohol from inside the car and asked her to perform sobriety tests. She failed all of them. A search of her car revealed a plastic cup containing what appeared to be alcohol and Red Bull.
At the station, the woman told police she arrived at a Forest Park bar at 10:30 p.m., drank five vodka drinks and left the bar at 3 a.m. She blew a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.226, almost three times the legal limit.
The woman was charged with driving under the influence – alcohol, DUI – BAC above 0.08, leaving the scene of an accident, open alcohol, and a local ordinance violation for damaging village property.
Parking meter pulled
A Chicago man received a felony charge for criminal damage to government property after he pulled a parking meter out of the ground near the CTA Harlem Green Line station, 1 S. Harlem Ave., and walked off with it about 3:34 a.m. on March 29.
Gerone Tate, 28, told police he had gotten off the CTA, was intoxicated and needed cash because he was homeless. He said he planned to take the parking meter to the scrap yard and exchange it for cash at a later date.
Alcohol, cannabis found in car
While on patrol, an officer observed a Cadillac DeVille park with two tires on the curb at the CTA Forest Park Blue Line station, 700 Desplaines Ave., about 8:50 p.m. on March 25.
The officer curbed the vehicle and a Chicago man handed him his license and insurance. Smelling marijuana inside the vehicle, police searched the Cadillac and uncovered a bag of cannabis and an open bottle of Hennessy cognac. They also found a small bag of marijuana on the driver.
He was charged with driving on the sidewalk, illegal transportation of alcohol, and received an ordinance violation for possession of less than 10 grams of cannabis.
Men with bolt cutters, paint near CTA
Two men in possession of bolt cutters and paint were apprehended on the village-owned Altenheim property about 10:57 p.m. on March 28.
A CTA supervisor told police he had seen the two men jump a fence from inside the train yard, 711 Desplaines Ave., and run through the cemetery into the vacant Altenheim area.
One of the men told police they were photographers and wanted to snap pictures of the land. He said the bolt cutters were part of a hobby he had, and that they attached to a drill.
The men were charged with criminal trespass to state-supported land.
Donated cellphones stolen
Sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on March 23, someone stole a bundle of donated cellphones intended for Ascension Church’s domestic violence ministry program from an apartment on the 800 block of Harlem. The victim said her back door may have been unlocked.
Thief rides off with stroller
Between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on March 26, a stroller valued at $350 was taken from the south side of a home on the 1000 block of Beloit. The victim said her front gates may not have been locked.
Radio, iPhones stolen
Sometime between 12:30 and 6 a.m. on March 28, someone stole the radio and two iPhones from a Buick parked on the 7400 block of Washington Street.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department, March 24-April 1, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
