In 1997 Forest Park hosted its first Independence Day Parade, with over 50 entries, which ended at the Park District of Forest Park for a day filled with activities. The unseasonably chilly day did not deter those from playing bingo, face painting, bucket brigade, kid games and enjoying live music. The night closed with a bang and a spectacular fireworks display.
