Important deadlines for the Proviso Math and Science Academy (PMSA) campuses are coming up in October, November and December for eighth-grade students in the Proviso 209 school district.
Students wishing to apply to PMSA at any of the three campuses should be aware of the following required documents and tests:
The application, available at the PMSA website at pths209.org/pmsa, must be completely filled out with signatures and postmarked or delivered directly to PMSA no later than Jan. 15, 2020. Early submission is encouraged.
Recommendation forms from the applicant’s seventh- or eighth-grade science and mathematics teachers. These must be submitted to PMSA in a sealed, school-issued envelope no later than Jan. 15.
Official transcripts for the entire seventh-grade school year. Applicants must request their school send these to PMSA by Jan. 15.
PSAT, which is administered by District 209 to eligible students at their feeder schools between Oct. 28 and Nov. 8.
Naglieri Non-verbal Ability Test and Written Academy Essay, offered at PMSA on Oct. 26, Nov. 23 or Dec. 14. Appointments are not necessary to take this exam. Applicants may test only once.
The school recommends keeping a photocopy of completed application materials. Also, applicants are encouraged to call the PMSA main office at 708-338-4100 to confirm that documents have been received.
This year’s application is different from previous years in that it allows applicants to choose an academy location preference. With the recent announcement of the new Proviso East Mathematics and Science Academy and Proviso West Mathematics and Science Academy opening for the class of 2024, applicants can choose their selective enrollment academy of choice.
The selection of students for PMSA takes place during late January and early February. Notification of enrollment is mailed shortly after.
Other important dates include: Information night for Proviso East Mathematics and Science Academy and Proviso West Mathematics and Science Academy on Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. at the District 209 Administration Building in Forest Park; PMSA Admissions Open Houses on Nov. 14 and Dec. 3 at PMSA from 6 to 8 p.m.; Parent student shadowing at PMSA on Oct. 24 and Nov. 7.
