Friday nights on Madison back in 1999 would include the lively crowd at the Chinese restaurant, Lee Choi at 7244 Madison. This is where Frank Pugno would play at 1978 Wurlitzer organ for the crowd in the cozy restaurant. It was the karaoke place before karaoke, filling requests for “Unforgettable,” Chicago,” and knowing just how to temper the vocally challenged singers with a little more zip from the organ. The featured music from the 1940’s like “Looking at You,” “Sunny Side of the Street,” “Toot, Toot, Tootsie! (Good-bye), and “Rockabye, Your Baby,” were standard crowd pleasers.
