Debut album from 1971 titled simply, John Prine.

There are few former Betsy Ross kindergarteners who might remember when their teacher, Ms. Ann Prine invited her uncle to played his guitar for them.  Prine was always connected to his roots, performing at a benefit concert at Proviso East for Maywood Fine Arts a decade ago, and just last year helping Val’s Halla Records by greeting friends and fans at the store.

John Prine, the two time Grammy- winning songwriter, singer and guitarist who died on April 7th at 73 years old, grew up in neighboring Maywood on 1st Ave.  After graduating from Proviso East in 1964 he served in the U.S. Army and was a U.S. Postal carrier in Maywood, now famously writing music in his head along his route.  He would play folk music at the Fifth Peg on Armitage in Chicago where his career would eventually be launched.
