Pete’s Grill was a Madison St. staple for nearly 35 years, before it was replaced by Louie’s Grill a local favorite today.  Pete Karnezis opened his little diner on the corner in 1965 and once said that the key to his success was “knowing his people.”   Regulars at Pete’s could be polled for opinions or hear about the Cubs from business partner and grill man, Steve  in “Once-Over-Lightly,” the weekly  Forest Park Review column written by publisher Bob Haeger.  Haeger, who was known to eat, sleep and breath Forest Park was  a regular there, among other restaurants in town.
