We are writing in support of well-run, short-term rentals in the village. It would be unfortunate if all short-term rentals were painted with the same brush as ones where the owners are negligent. We have had an Airbnb in Forest Park for many years and have never had any issues with our guests – nor any complaints from our neighbors. We have our rental set up so that we can keep an eye on things and react quickly if anything becomes problematic – which it never has.

Several benefits to these short-term rentals might get lost in the discussion, one being that there is a dearth of hotel options in the area. Many of our guests are visiting family members, or their children who are at local colleges. We’ve even had residents stay with us while their homes were being renovated. Maybe most importantly, these guests spend money in Forest Park at local businesses, restaurants, bars, stores, etc. It would be unfortunate to lose this resource for visitors to the area because of the bad behavior of a few guests/owners.

It would be good to remember that well-behaved, respectful guests don’t make it into the paper.
