Connie Brown may be the richest woman in town. For fans of the holiday film classic, It’s a Wonderful Life, the reference will resonate even if the means of stepping up in support of Brown and her Brown Cow Ice Cream Parlor did not involve tinkling bells and angels receiving their wings. Instead it was a GoFundMe page set up by one her sons that allowed the citizens of Forest Park to rocket a distraught Brown — who faced the imminent loss of her ice cream manufacturing vendor license — into a person counting her blessings.

In less than 48 hours a $50,000 goal to build an in-house creamery on Madison Street was quickly surpassed. On Monday afternoon, donations had hit $57,000.

Brown, both a fixture and an activist on Madison Street and in the D209 Together movement, is loved and respected. So the blessings are earned.
