It still seems backwards. The village of Forest Park is about ready to issue a Request for Proposals to see just what it is that the real estate market would like to build on the 11 publicly-owned acres at the Altenheim.
We’ve made peace with the idea that a portion of that site will be sold off for development. But it ought to be the village, with active input from citizens, that spells out what portion — and which portion of the Altenheim must be preserved as open recreational space.
We are still waiting for that open, honest discussion.
