Forest Park Elementary School District 91 announced May 19 that it will hold a free COVID-19 vaccination clinic on Thursday, June 3 for students. This decision comes after the FDA’s recent authorization of the Pfizer vaccine for use in children ages 12 through 15 and the CDC’s recommendation of vaccinating people in that age group.
The D91 vaccination clinic will take place at the Forest Park Middle School gymnasium, 925 Beloit Ave. Parents or guardians can make a vaccine appointment for their child at signupgenius.com/go/30e0c4cabab2ea5f94-district. A parent or guardian must accompany the student and be present for the vaccination.
The district said it encourages families with unvaccinated children to take advantage of the clinic being offered to D91 students.
“Schools with lower rates of vaccination are more likely to see outbreaks, which can lead to time away from school in addition to more serious consequences for the health of children and families,” wrote Superintendent Lou Cavallo in a letter to families. He pointed out that the American Academy of Pediatrics supports the vaccine in children and adolescents as “key, safe mechanisms that protect individuals and populations against infectious diseases.”
