Officers investigate the scene of a shooting on Madison Street on June 18.

A man was shot while driving his car on Van Buren Street, just south of Madison Street, on June 18 around 4 p.m.

Police were called for a report of shots fired. They arrived to find a gray Jeep stopped in the roadway on Madison Street and a 21-year-old male who had sustained a gunshot wound to the back.

A 20-year-old female passenger was also present, and she had not sustained any injuries, according to a press release from Forest Park Police Chief Tom Aftanas.

The male victim was transported to the hospital, where he is in stable condition.

According to the press release, witnesses said the shooting took place on Van Buren Street just south of Madison Street. The shooting suspect was possibly driving a white BMW, which was last seen traveling southbound from the shooting location.

“This incident appears to be isolated and no reason to believe there is an imminent threat to the community,” said the police in their release.
