Garage Galleries organizers have announced applications are now open for this summer’s event to be held on Aug. 28 from 2 to 7 p.m. The group is looking both for artists to display their work and garages willing to host art displays.
Priority acceptance will be given to 2019 and other previous artists and hosts.
Garage Galleries is a volunteer-driven art-walk through the neighborhood, in which residents throughout town open their garages as galleries where local artists present their work. There’s no entry fee or juried selection process for artists wishing to present, and the garage galleries receptions are casual and friendly.
The event wasn’t held during 2020 due to COVID-19, but the 2019 event was a celebration of art throughout town, including pottery, painting, collage, photography and other forms of art, displayed in garages, sometimes with refreshments and always with great conversation.
Safety precautions and physical distancing will be part of the 2021 event, and if COVID conditions warrant it, the event may be cancelled.
If you’re interested in showcasing your work, hosting in your garage or volunteering (to help in advance or just day-of), visit tinyurl.com/GarageGalleries.
Stoop Sessions starting up again
The Forest Park Arts Alliance (FPAA) is bringing back Stoop Sessions this summer, events where musicians play music on front porches. Residents and visitors bring their own chairs or picnic blankets and enjoy the performance.

This summer’s first event will be on Wednesday, July 14, at 7 p.m. at 914 Beloit Ave. The featured artist is Kathleen Lane, a vocalist from Chicago, who blends folk and indie sounds. For more information, visit the Forest Park Arts Alliance group on Facebook, facebook.com/groups/1395302483899525.
