With the NBC hit series “Cheers” coming to an end in 1993, Pioneer Liquors and Tap, 7445 Randolph St., held a contest to see which of its customers or bartenders were most like TV show’s characters.

“Cheers” was a popular sitcom that started in 1982 and the bar was modeled after the Bull & Finch Pub in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Boston. It became one of the most popular sitcoms in history and its cast of characters – Norm (George Wendt), Cliff the mailman (John Ratzenberger), Woody (Woody Harrelson) the bartender, Sam (Ted Danson) the owner and Carla (Rhea Perlman) the sassy waitress – became beloved TV icons.
