A 22-year-old Chicago man was arrested as he exited a CTA Blue Line train not far from the spot where police say he tried to steal a minivan with a brick and a screwdriver.

Donald Nolton has been charged with felony burglary after Forest Park police say he attempted to drive off with a Dodge Caravan in the 7300 block of Harrison Street on Oct. 29 around 4:45 p.m. Police say Nolton later fled on foot and entered a Blue Line train at Harlem Avenue.

Forest Park police relayed Nolton’s information to Oak Park police, who identified their suspect at the Oak Park Avenue stop. Nolton again allegedly tried to run before being taken into custody.

The owner of the minivan identified Nolton as the man who attempted to steal the vehicle, police said.

Police confiscated a screwdriver from Nolton when he was taken into custody and a brick was recovered from the front passenger seat of the minivan. Police believe Nolton intended to smash the minivan’s steering column with the brick and use the screwdriver to start the ignition.

This information was obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
