One person was transported to the hospital following an apparent “expressway shooting” near Interstate 290 and the eastbound Desplaines Avenue exit ramp on Monday night, according to the Illinois State Police (ISP).

The incident was reported at 8:18 p.m., an ISP spokesperson said, and ended with the driver of one vehicle transported to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

According to Forest Park Chief of Police Ken Gross, officers pursued that vehicle southbound on Desplaines Avenue for about two miles before it crashed near Bar Tini Lounge in North Riverside.

After the crash, police rendered medical aid to the driver, who was then transported to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood with “serious injuries.” No further update on their condition was available.

A number of shell casings were recovered from the Desplaines Avenue exit ramp, Gross said.

The incident remains under investigation.
