A 39-year-old man was arrested after allegedly beating a security guard with a wooden drum stick at the Living Word Christian Center on Nov. 14.
Forest Park police were dispatched to the 7600 block of Roosevelt Road around 1:30 p.m. and arrived to find a security guard on the ground with a man holding a drum stick standing over him. Officers detained the suspect and transported him to the police department.
In subsequent interviews at the scene, witnesses told police the man was acting strangely inside the church bookstore, “stating that he was a member of the KKK, that he hated Christians, [and that] he was god and the devil,” at which point a church employee attempted to intervene.
The man told the employee that he was looking for “the leader of the church” and when he tried to enter an annex area, the church’s security staff was summoned. When a security guard arrived, he was attacked, police said, along with at least one other bystander.
The security guard was injured in the attack and was transported to Loyola University Medical Center for treatment.
