Claiming to have a gun, a man stole around $500 from the 7-Eleven convenience store at 7749 Roosevelt Road on Thursday, March 24 a little after 10:30 p.m., according to the police.

Described in the report as a skinny man in his 20s wearing a full ski mask, he walked into the business and asked for a pack of cigars, then told the clerk “open the register or I’ll shoot you” after he turned to retrieve the item. The alleged thief did not show a gun.

The man left with nearly $500 from the cash registers and fled the store on foot. A witness later reported seeing a man in a black ski mask running in the 7600 block of Fillmore Street. He reportedly entered a silver Chevrolet Impala that drove away from the area, according to the witness.

No one was arrested.
